We’re excited to release a new look for the UK’s favoruite noise monitor. The SV 307A is now available in black! It is the same Class 1 noise monitoring station as the white SV 307A, just repackaged in a subtle a black case.
The colour is the only change. The only difference is how the unit looks on site: mounted on a lamp post, pole or shop front, it blends in instead of standing out.
Why Did We Make a Black Version?
Long-term noise monitors stay in public view for weeks or months. A white unit on a lamp post or fence line is easy to spot, and that can draw attention you don’t want on a sensitive site or a quiet street.
This new change is designed for those installs when you want to employ a bit more stealth in your set up. The black case reads as part of the street furniture rather than a piece of monitoring equipment.
The SV 307A is already compact, at 680 x 80 mm and 2.2 kg, and is designed to mount on a mast, pole or fence. A darker case helps it sit further into that background.
The Same Class 1 Certification, a More Subtle Install
What Has Not Changed
The Black Edition keeps the full SV 307A specification. It is a Class 1 sound level meter to IEC 61672-1:2013, PTB type approved, with the same patented MEMS microphone and lifetime microphone warranty.
| Parameter | SV 307A and Black Edition |
| Standards | Class 1: IEC 61672-1:2013 and IEC 61260-1:2014 |
| Type approval | PTB |
| Measurement range | 23 dBA Leq to 128 dBA Peak |
| Linear operating range | 30 dBA Leq to 128 dBA Peak |
| Internal noise | Less than 23 dBA Leq |
| Frequency range | 20 Hz to 20 kHz |
| Microphone | Patented MEMS, lifetime warranty |
| Battery | Li-Ion, 5 to 6 days |
| Memory | 32 GB microSD |
| Communication | 4G, USB, RS232, GPS |
| Size and weight | 680 x 80 mm, 2.2 kg |
The system check is unchanged too. The unit verifies its measurement path using dual MEMS microphones and raises an alert if they disagree. A built-in 100 dB sound source supports manual and automated checks.
So, What Does This Mean for You?
The Black Edition is for sites where the monitor needs to stay out of the way. It suits:
- Lamp post and street furniture mounts
- Urban construction boundaries next to public footpaths
- Shop fronts and commercial premises
- Long-term monitoring in residential areas
Power options, mounting and SvanNET access are the same as the white unit, so nothing changes in how you specify, install or manage it.
These changes don’t mean that white is inherently a worse choice. Some projects would be more suitable with visible monitoring for community reassurance, or so site staff know the unit is there and give it room. The white SV 307A remains available for those jobs.
Questions We Expect
Does a black case run hotter in direct sun?
It’s no secret that darker surfaces absorb more solar heat, so it’s fair to think there will be a lower temperature rating for the SV 307A black edition. —
Is it still Class 1 and type approved?
Yes. Only the case colour changes, so the microphone, electronics and acoustic performance are the same. The unit remains Class 1 to IEC 61672-1:2013 with PTB type approval.
Is it still weatherproof?
Yes. It is the same sealed outdoor housing, built for continuous outdoor use at humidity up to 99% RH.
Will it work with our existing SvanNET projects?
Yes. It is an SV 307A, so it connects to SvanNET like any other unit and can sit in the same project as white units.
Remote Monitoring with SvanNET
The Black Edition works with SvanNET in the same way as the white SV 307A. Measurement data goes over the built-in 4G modem to SvanNET, where you can view results, group stations into projects and set alarms.
SvanNET AI adds automatic noise source classification, so the system can identify what is making the noise for you. Audio streaming is available as an option on the unit.
