Our offices are in Bedford at the Priory Business Park, easily accessible from the A421 and close to Milton Keynes. We have parking on site (free) and are located close to restaurants, pubs and supermarkets. Beautiful lakes and parks are accessible close by for lunchtime walks.

Current Vacanices:
Laboratory Assistant
To carry out full calibrations of noise, vibration, and air-quality monitoring equipment in accordance with the laboratory’s approved procedures and applicable standards. This includes generating calibration certificates in line with customer requirements and laboratory quality standards, and managing correspondence with customers, manufacturers, and partner laboratories.
The role will support and report into both the Laboratory Manager and the Services Manager, working as part of the Technical Support Team to resolve customer cases. Support within the Service Centre, including the inspection, servicing, and repair of equipment, may also be required as part of the role.
Full training will be provided across all relevant areas, including calibration activities, service centre operations, and technical support functions. This training will be supported by formal certification where applicable. Following completion of the initial training, further training will be provided in UKAS laboratory standards, practices, and assessment requirements.
Key Objectives in the Role
You will be responsible for the following key objectives in your role:
- To perform calibration activities accurately, consistently, and in full compliance with laboratory procedures, quality standards, and customer requirements.
- To produce clear, accurate, and timely calibration certificates and associated documentation.
- To support the Technical Support Team in resolving customer cases efficiently and professionally.
- To assist within the Service Centre with equipment inspection, servicing, and repair activities as required.
- To maintain effective communication with customers, manufacturers, and partner laboratories.
- To develop and maintain competency across calibration, service centre, and technical support functions through structured training and certification.
- To work in accordance with UKAS laboratory standards, contributing to successful assessments and continual improvement of laboratory practices.
- To support the Laboratory Manager and Services Manager in maintaining high standards of service delivery, quality, and compliance.
Qualifications and Experience
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in:
- Mathematics
- English
- One technical or science-based subject (e.g. Physics, Engineering, ICT, Electronics)
- Demonstrable technical aptitude, evidenced through:
- Hands-on experience with electronic, mechanical, or measurement equipment
- Ability to follow written procedures, test methods, and work instructions accurately
- Basic IT competence, including:
- Use of PCs and software systems
- Accurate data entry and document handling
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work methodically within defined processes
Desirable and Preferred
- Vocational or technical qualifications, such as:
- BTEC / NVQ
- Engineering (Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Instrumentation)
- Applied Science
- Manufacturing or Technical Services
- BTEC / NVQ
- Apprenticeship background in:
- Engineering
- Electronics
- Instrumentation
- Laboratory or technical services
- A-levels / T-levels in:
- Physics

We are open to candidates from a wide range of educational and vocational backgrounds. A university degree is not required. Applicants should demonstrate technical aptitude, the ability to follow defined procedures accurately, and confidence working with electronic or measurement equipment. Apprentice Business Administration Assistant
Key Objectives and Role Description
- Follow up existing repair quotations within the service department and support the conversion of quotes into confirmed repair work.
- Maintain organised stock control by monitoring inventory levels, updating records, and assisting with the ordering of parts when required.
- Ensure stock levels remain accurate and up to date to support efficient service operations and reduce delays.
- Liaise with the rental team to help coordinate equipment, parts, and scheduling within the service department.
- Assist with tracking and following up technical support cases to help ensure issues are monitored and resolved.
- Support clear communication between customers, the technical team, and the service department regarding repairs, service updates, and technical queries.
Qualifications and Experience
- To be considered for this role you will ideally need to have GCSE grades 9-3 (A*- D) in English and maths or the ability to work towards Level 3
Functional Skills during the programme.
