What is LEP?
LEP, or Personal Noise Exposure Level measures the total amount of noise someone is exposed to over their working day.
LEP, or Personal Noise Exposure Level, is a method used to measure a person’s exposure to noise over a working day. It takes an average measured noise level and normalises it to a standard 8-hour reference period, allowing workplace noise exposure to be compared consistently against legal limits and guidance values.
In this video, we explain:
- What LEP is and how it’s used
- How LEP differs from LEQ measurements
- Why exposure duration affects personal noise exposure levels
If you’re involved in workplace noise assessment, occupational health, or acoustic monitoring, understanding LEP is essential. Want to explore more acoustics terminology? Visit the AcSoft Ltd Knowledge Hub for practical guides, FAQs, and the full acoustics glossary.
