New Svantek Product: Introducing the SV 810 Air Overpressure Meter

When it comes to blast monitoring, accurate measurement of air overpressure is just as important as monitoring ground vibration. Blast events can generate significant pressure waves, particularly at low frequencies. That’s where the new SV 810 Air-Overpressure Meter from Svantek comes in.

Designed specifically for blast monitoring applications, the SV 810 provides accurate measurement of high-energy impulsive noise and air overpressure, whilst offering the flexibility to operate as a standalone instrument or integrated with other Svantek monitoring systems such as the SV 803, or SV 804.

What is the SV 810?

The SV 810 is a dedicated air-overpressure meter designed to measure the pressure waves generated by blasting and other high-energy events.

It has been developed to meet the ISEE 2022 Performance Specifications, with a frequency range of 2 Hz to 250 Hz and an extended peak measurement range from 105 dB to 168 dB Peak. This makes the SV 810 particularly well suited to demanding applications where accurate measurement of low-frequency, impulsive noise is required.

The meter can be used independently in the field, with its own battery and internal memory, or connected to Svantek monitoring stations including the SV 803, SV 804 and SD 311 for synchronised monitoring and remote access through SvanNET.

Unlike a general-purpose sound level meter, the SV 810 has been designed specifically around the requirements of air-overpressure measurement.

SV 810 Key features

ISEE 2022 Compliant Measurement Performance

The SV 810 has been engineered to meet the latest ISEE 2022 Performance Specifications, providing the measurement performance required for professional blast monitoring applications.

The instrument uses a digital True RMS detector with Peak detection and 0.1 dB resolution, supporting detailed measurement of impulsive events.

One of the key advantages of the SV 810 is its flexibility.

For short-term measurements or spot checks, the instrument can operate completely independently. It has an integrated 8 GB memory, rechargeable Li-ion battery and built-in OLED display and keypad, allowing measurements to be configured directly on the instrument without requiring an external device.

For larger monitoring projects, the SV 810 can be connected to Svantek monitoring stations such as the SV 803, SV 804 and SD 311. This allows air-overpressure measurements to be combined with vibration monitoring, with data transferred to the SvanNET cloud platform for remote monitoring and analysis which makes it possible to monitor both the vibration and air-overpressure effects of blasting from a single monitoring solution.

Blast monitoring doesn’t always take place in easy conditions, so the SV 810 has been designed with field use in mind. The meter has an IP54 rating as standard, with protection upgradeable to IP65 when used with the optional SA 810 weather-resistant enclosure. The compact meter weighs just 270 g, making it easy to transport and deploy across multiple monitoring locations.

For temporary monitoring projects, the SV 810 provides up to 8 hours of operation from its rechargeable Li-ion battery and combined with 8 GB of internal memory, this allows the meter to be deployed without the need for an external data logger or permanent power supply.

Applications of the SV 810

The SV 810 has been developed for a range of applications where blast-related air overpressure needs to be measured and documented.

Typical applications include:

  • Quarry and mining blasting
  • Construction and demolition
  • Tunnelling and excavation
  • Infrastructure projects
  • Environmental and community monitoring
  • Blast compliance monitoring
  • Structural protection and monitoring

For quarries and mining operations, the SV 810 can help provide reliable records of blast-generated pressure waves and support compliance with environmental requirements.

For urban demolition and construction projects, accurate air-overpressure measurements can help demonstrate that blast impacts remain within agreed limits and provide useful evidence when responding to concerns from nearby residents.

SV 810 Applications

Why Measure Air Overpressure?

Ground vibration isn’t the only effect that needs to be considered when monitoring blasting. A blast produces both ground vibration and a pressure wave through the atmosphere. While the higher-frequency part of this pressure wave may be audible as blast noise, much of the energy can occur at lower frequencies.

This is why dedicated air-overpressure monitoring is important. Measuring the pressure wave alongside ground vibration provides a more complete picture of the effects of a blast at the monitoring location.

Why the SV 810

The introduction of the SV 810 gives consultants, contractors and monitoring professionals another option when measuring the effects of blasting. Whether you need a portable standalone air-overpressure meter for short-term measurements or a solution that can be integrated with an existing SV 803 or SV 804 monitoring system, the SV 810 provides the flexibility to adapt to different project requirements.
